Headteacher Update
An update from Mr Seviour.
Learning Review Week
I've mentioned previously that we have dedicated weeks across the school year when we look particularly closely at aspects of our practice to ensure that our school continues to improve. We are coming to the end of the first Learning Review Week of the year. It is always a pleasure to recognise the strengths in our own provision, and monitor the implementation of new initiatives to improve the quality of education at Blackbrook School. We have a big focus on feedback and assessment within lessons, and I have been pleased to see my colleagues across the school engaging really well with some adaptations to our approach.
Blackbrook Sports Kit (Thank You FOBS)
We have a very smart sports kit, kindly funded by the Friends. Thank you for continuing to support our fundraising events. I have started a page on the new website to capture where the money is spent. Click here to have a look. We have some exciting plans for the funds raised from future fundraising drives - watch this space. In the assembly today, Mrs Shaw will be telling the children about 'Penny Wars'. Each class has been given a bottle to fill with loose change. Prizes will be given to the class that fills theirs to the brim and to the class that collects the most in value. More information can be found here. Thank you for your support.
Taunton Together
Our school was selected to help decorate Taunton Minster, St Mary Magdalene, for the Taunton Together festival on Saturday 28th September. The children's sculptures, artwork, poems and the like all looked wonderful. I know many of you had a look on Saturday. The work will remain there for a little while, so if you haven't been, there is still time! Take a look at some photos here.
School Timings & Late Procedure
We would like to remind parents that the start of the school day is at 08:50. The school gates are open from 08:45 until 08:55 at which point the registers are taken. Pupils arriving to school after 08:55 will be directed to sign-in at the school office whilst the gates may remain open to allow parents to leave. If you are running late, it's not a problem, but the school is required to monitor and take action to address persistent lateness. Thank you for your support. It is in the children's best interest to start the school day with their peers. In line with our school values, we aspire to make the most of learning time in school.
Parent Consultations
A letter was sent home this week explaining how you can book a ten-minute consultation with your child's class teacher. Bookings are available on Arbor from Monday at 17:00. Give the office a call, or pop in, if you need any assistance or need to amend your booking.
Invasion Games - 30th September
Well done to all the children who took part in the Invasion Games session on Monday. Click here to read all about it.
Tag Rugby - 3rd October
Well done to all the children who took part in the Tag Rugby game on Thursday. Click here to read all about it.
Parent Information Evening (Reception, Years 1 and 2)
I recently sent a letter to parents of pupils in Reception-Year 2 about plans for an information evening, to support parents' understanding of how we teach Early Reading, Writing and Maths and how you can support at home. I can confirm that the event will take place on Wednesday 9th October at 18:30. A Microsoft Teams link will be sent to these parents for you to join the session. You do not need to have Microsoft Teams installed on your computer / mobile / tablet, but you may find this easier. Please note that the session is directed at adults and not children. I hope that many of you will be able to attend.
