Early Reading, Writing & Maths Parent Information Evening

We ran an information evening for Reception, Year 1 and 2 Parents on Wednesday 9th October. Mrs Kramer discussed our approach to teaching reading at Blackbrook, through a scheme called 'Read, Write, Inc.' Mrs Rendell then discussed how parents can promote a love of writing with their children. Mr Sime finished the session with an overview of maths and how this can be supported at home.

The event was attended virtually by around 26 families, and we were really pleased with the feedback. There was overwhelming consensus that the online format was proffered to in-person. General feedback included that this made organising childcare easier, that parents could 'listen-in' whilst doing other home activities etc. Some of the comments included:

The session was welcoming and informative, and will help parents to support their children's learning outside of school'

It was a really good and informative session. It was useful to understand the key learning being taught and how they are taught and the expectation by the end of the year.'

Just to say thank you all for running the session. I found it really helpful.

Thank you to all who attended. We look forward to running further sessions during the year.

Friends of Blackbrook School

I hope your child(ren) enjoyed the disco on Friday evening. Thanks again to the FOBS for organising and running another successful event. Beyond the fundraising, I feel fortunate that we have a committed group who organise such activities for our children to enjoy. The FOBS AGM will be held on Thursday 14th November at 19:30 at the school (with an online link available by request via the office). I do encourage any parents to join, particularly if you feel you may be able to offer support.

Parking

We have had contact from our neighbours to report instances of parking that are affecting their ability to access their properties. Please be mindful, when parking, to ensure that driveways are not blocked. Parking opposite driveways also presents a challenge. Thank you for your understanding.

Year Five Residential

Class Five returned this evening following their three-day residential visit to Escot. The children had a wonderful time, and the staff really enjoyed their time with them. We will be going through the photos with plans to share these with you on Monday. I am sure the children will sleep well this weekend. Thanks again to the staff who attended.

Pupil News

Well done to the children who participated in the Invasion Game Fixture on Monday 7th October. Read all about it here. The article was written by the pupils. Why not ask your child if they would like to write something for the school website? You could encourage them to speak with their teacher about their ideas - a great writing opportunity.
